A photo that opens sideways, a selfie that mirrors your writing, a scan that came out upside down: all quick fixes.
The options
- Rotate: 0, 90, 180 or 270 degrees clockwise.
- Flip horizontally: mirrors left and right, as in a mirror image.
- Flip vertically: mirrors top and bottom.
Rotating by 90 or 270 degrees swaps the width and height of the picture. A 1,200 × 800 landscape image becomes 800 × 1,200.
Using the tool
- Choose an image in the Image Rotator.
- Pick a rotation and tick any flips.
- Download the result.
Handy combinations
- A 180-degree rotation is the same as flipping both horizontally and vertically.
- To fix a mirrored selfie, use flip horizontally only.
- To turn a photo that is on its side the right way up, try 90 or 270.
Things to know
The tool draws the picture again, which re-saves it, so a JPEG goes through one more round of compression. For repeated edits, make all your changes in one pass. Re-saving also removes EXIF information; see the EXIF guide. Rotation only changes pixels. It does not straighten a slightly tilted horizon.
Frequently asked questions
Why did my photo open sideways in the first place?
Phones store an orientation flag in the file instead of rotating the pixels, and some programs ignore it.
