Image Compressor
Reduce an image's file size by adjusting JPEG/WebP quality, with the size saved shown — entirely in your browser, the image is never uploaded anywhere.
Make an image’s file size smaller by re-saving it at a lower quality. It runs in your browser and the image is not uploaded.
How to use it
- Choose an image (up to 25 MB).
- Pick a quality: 90, 70, 50 or 30 percent (70 is the default).
- Compare the sizes and download the result.
Choosing a quality
- 90%: nearly indistinguishable, modest saving.
- 70%: a good balance for web photos.
- 50%: clear savings, with possible artefacts in smooth areas such as sky.
- 30%: small files with visible blockiness, for thumbnails.
Good to know
JPEG and WebP are lossy formats with a quality setting, so they compress well. PNG is lossless, so the quality slider has no effect on it and the size may barely change; to shrink a PNG photo, convert it to JPEG or WebP first with the Image Converter. The pixel dimensions stay the same, so a large photo shown small is better handled by resizing as well. Lossy compression cannot be undone, so keep the original. Re-saving also drops EXIF data such as location.
See the guide and lossy and lossless.
FAQs
Why did my PNG not get smaller?
PNG ignores the quality setting. Convert it to JPEG or WebP, or reduce its pixel size.
