How to use it

  1. Choose Base32 or Base58, then encode or decode.
  2. Paste your text.
  3. Copy or download the result.

Examples

  • “Hello” in Base32 is JBSWY3DP (capital letters and the digits 2 to 7).
  • “Hello” in Base58 is 9Ajdvzr (letters and digits, without 0, O, I and l).

Good to know

Base32 is case-insensitive and easy to read aloud, which suits typed codes and authenticator secrets; its output is about 60% longer than the input. Base58 avoids look-alike characters and is best known from cryptocurrency addresses. When decoding, the text must be valid in the chosen alphabet and decode to UTF-8 text, otherwise the tool says so. Real Bitcoin addresses add a version byte and checksum that this tool does not, so use it for learning, not for handling funds.

Neither is encryption. See the guide, Base64 vs Base32 and the glossary entries for Base32 and Base58.

FAQs

Which should I choose?

Base32 when people type or read the value aloud, Base58 when look-alike characters cause mistakes, and Base64 when size matters.
