Find the score you need on a final exam to reach a target course grade. It runs in your browser.

How to use it

  1. Enter your current grade as a percentage.
  2. Enter the final exam’s weight (1 to 100).
  3. Enter the grade you want.
  4. Read the score needed.

The formula

needed = (target − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight, with the weight as a decimal. With 82% now, a final worth 30% and a target of 85%, you need 92%.

When the target is out of reach

With 70% now, a 40% final and a 90% target, you would need 120%, and the tool says it is not possible. If your current grade already guarantees the target, it says that any score works.

Good to know

The tool treats your current grade as the grade for everything else in the course. It does not know about dropped scores, replacement rules or rounding, so check the syllabus. Details in the guide.
