How it works
Each letter grade is converted to grade points (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0, with plus and minus adding or removing a few tenths). Each course’s points are multiplied by its credit hours, the products are added, and the sum is divided by the total credit hours.
An example
An A in a 3-credit course, a B+ in a 4-credit course, a C in a 2-credit course and an A− in a 3-credit course give 40.3 grade points across 12 credits, so a GPA of 3.36. Enter your own courses in the GPA Calculator.
Unweighted and weighted
An unweighted GPA tops out at 4.0. Some schools use a weighted version that adds a point or half a point for honours, AP or similar courses, so a student can exceed 4.0. The calculator here is unweighted.
Common misunderstanding
GPA scales vary. Other countries and some universities use percentages, 10-point scales or classifications instead, and an official transcript decides your GPA, not any calculator. See how to calculate your GPA for a full walk-through.
