Good to know
These are not the same everywhere. The UK gallon is about 4.546 litres, a metric cup in Australia, Canada and New Zealand is 250 ml, and an Australian tablespoon is 20 ml. Fluid ounces are not included here. For baking, weights are more reliable than volumes, see the Weight Converter.

FAQs
Is a US cup the same as a metric cup?
No. A US cup is 236.59 ml and a metric cup is 250 ml, so recipes can differ by about 5%.
Why does a cup of flour weigh different amounts?
Flour packs down when scooped, so the weight for one cup can vary noticeably. Weigh it for precision.
