How to use it

  1. Enter one course per line: the grade, a comma, then the credit hours, such as A, 3.
  2. Use a letter grade from A+ to F.
  3. Read the GPA and the total credit hours.

The scale

A+ and A are 4.0, A− 3.7, B+ 3.3, B 3.0, B− 2.7, C+ 2.3, C 2.0, C− 1.7, D+ 1.3, D 1.0, D− 0.7 and F 0. Each grade’s points are multiplied by its credit hours, added up and divided by the total credits.

Example: A (3 credits), B+ (4), C (2) and A− (3) give 40.3 points over 12 credits, a GPA of 3.36.

Good to know

This is the unweighted scale, so honours and AP bonuses are not added. Some schools use different values or other systems altogether, and the transcript from your school is the official figure. Leave out pass/fail courses if your school does.

FAQs

What if a line is wrong?

The tool says what it could not read, for example that the grade is not valid or the credits must be positive.

Does a retaken class replace the old grade?

That depends on your school’s policy. Enter grades the way your school counts them.
